To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2024, we would love to introduce Alex, one of our apprentices at Tindall Engineering.

Alex shakes the stereotype that apprentices are only school leavers, as he made the decision to pursue his passion in engineering and join our team in December 2022 at the age of thirty.

With experience in the construction industry and as a manager at Nandos, Alex has taken his previous experience and transferred those skills into his role as an apprentice at Tindall Engineering.

We are extremely proud of his professional growth and eagerness to get involved in everything from helping to manage stock levels to supporting on research and design projects.

Last week, we caught up with Alex to find out a little bit more about his first year as an apprentice, keep reading for a snippet of his experience!

So, you’ve been with us for just over a year now! What are some of the skills you’ve learnt?

I’ve learnt and really built my confidence with using the different machines around the factory and building the methods and techniques to work independently on machines.

What would you say has been your greatest achievement in your first year as an apprentice?

Being given the chance to design and make tools for the machines has been great. I got to work on designing and manufacturing my own roller for one of the machines I work on. To see something go from an idea to actually working as part of the machine is pretty great.

And on a more personal note, I recently opened up about my challenges with my mental health which was a huge step forward for me. It was great that the response was positive, and I felt supported and more confident in my role after that!

We also heard you recently won ‘Apprentice of the Quarter’ from Oldham Training College – Congratulations!

Yes! It was really nice to be recognised by OTC. I’ve always thought, you don’t know what you can achieve until you try. I’m so glad I didn’t count myself out just because I’m a little bit older. I’d really encourage anyone else to pursue what they’re passionate about and never waste an opportunity.

Thank you, Alex, for being so open and sharing with us. It’s been great to gain a personal insight into one of our apprentice’s journeys!

We are excited to see where the future takes Alex. He is enthusiastic about progressing at Tindall Engineering and finding his place where he can make a real impact on the business.

Helping anyone of any age or background to put their passion into a reality is an amazing triumph for Tindall Engineering. We are grateful to each apprentice that has chosen to kickstart their career in engineering with us, and we look forward to supporting many more apprentices for years to come.
